Recorded at Gampo Abbey, November 1996.
These teachings by Pema Chodron are a commentary on Chogyam Trungpa Rinpoche’s Glimpses of Mahayana, available in Vol. 2 of his Collected Works (Shambhala Publications). The main themes are buddhanature (basic goodness), maitri, the spiritual friend, and developing basic trust.
Talk 1: How to Awaken Buddhanature (:48)
All that you need can be found within: that is the view of buddhanature, or basic goodness. One begins to connect with this through maitri (friendliness). The function of the teacher is to help us wake up and to recognize our true nature.
Talk 2: The Development of Trust (:54)
The mahayana teachings encourage the natural evolution of our wakefulness through being open to all states of mind. Trust in one’s own wisdom develops when openness is mixed with compassion.
